Abstract

567,644. Reciprocating pumps. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLAIR, C. C. S. Oct. 28, 1942, No. 15155. [Class 102 (i)] A reciprocating pump, suitable for de-icing apparatus on aircraft or for lubrication purposes, comprises a cylinder 2 with inlet and outlet ports 3, 4 controlled respectively by a reciprocated plunger 8 and an opposed piston valve 9 which is moved by the entrapped liquid and is acted upon by two springs 18, 24. The light spring 18 is fitted between a shoulder 14 on the valve 9 and a hollow head 15 screwed on to a sleeve 16 loose on the valve, the sleeve 16 forming a stop for the shoulder 14, The heavy spring 24 is fitted between a flange 17 on the head 15 and the bottom of a plug 23 which is screwed into a cap 21 and in which the head 15 slides. The cap 21 is knurled at 33, is screwed at 36 into the pump body 1 and has a flange 22 to form a stop for the flange 17. Vent openings are provided at 15a, 17a and 21b. Discharge from zero to a maximum is adjusted, whilst the pump is running, by rotating the cap 21 preferably through a single revolution, locking being .effected by the free end 30 of a spring 26 engaging in any one of a number of indexed notches 31 in the cap 21. A permanent stop 32 also is provided. The plunger 8 and valve 9 may come into contact before, when, or after the plunger reaches the end of its instroke. A number of such pumps may be arranged in single.line, or in V, opposed, or radial formation, and they may be operated by one or more cam-shafts in a chamber which may or may not serve also as a sump.
