Abstract

[Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] The supply of fuel or air or both to internalcombustion engines is controlled by a spring- loaded fluid-controlling valve such as a fuel valve c to'which opening movement is imparted by a variable electromagnet f when a contact maker j responsive to a condition associated with the engine is closed, resistances exposed to the exhaust gases of the engine so as to vary with the composition of such gases being arranged in the circuit of the contact maker and electromagnet. As shown, the contact maker j is driven from the crank-shaft o of the engine, but it may be operated by a diaphragm subjected to the pressure fluctuations in the induction system. When air as well as fuel is controlled, the two electromagnets have common controlling means. The device may be applied to an injector in the cylinder head or to the fuel or air supplies to spray carburetter or gas mixer.
