564,228. Self-locking nuts. BERRY, F. W., QUILTER, W., and WILKERSON, J. S. May 7, 1943, No. 7256. [Class 89 (i)] Nuts, particularly those for securing road wheels to motor vehicles, that are radiused at 2, Fig. 1, on one end face to engage in a coned or dished surface 4 in the hub plate, are provided with substantially radial slits' 6 to increase the grip of the nut when tightened. The nuts may be radiused and slotted on each face 2, 2a, Fig. 3, and may co-operate with separate coned washers 8. In a further modification, the slits are formed in the washers instead of in the nuts. The slits may be in line with the flats or the corners of the nut.
