563,595. Telephonic transmitters and circuits. BEEKLEY, F. C. Dec. 8, 1942, No. 17445. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1941. [Class 40 (iv)] A microphone cancels ambient or undesired sounds by impressing them in balance at two spaced microphone portions (e.g. two separate diaphragms or opposite sides of the ' same diaphragm) through two adjacent openings spaced apart a small fraction, say quarter, of a wave length of the highest frequency it is desired to cancel. Fig. 1 shows a bent base-plate 10 supporting casings 13 with diaphragms 16 associated with carbon-granule or moving-coil microphones connected in balanced relation, Figs. 2, 3, 4 (not shown), so as to cancel out sounds impressed equally on the two diaphragms. In Fig. 6, the undesired sounds pass through openings 67, 68 to opposite sides of a diaphragm 70 carrying a moving coil 73, whilst in Figs. 7 and 8 undesired sounds pass through two spaced openings 87 (three-eighths of an inch apart) to opposite sides of a diaphragm 82 carrying a carbon-granule microphone 84.
