Abstract

563,425. Endless - track vehicles. MACBETH, C., and LOYD, V. G. Sept. 5, 1941, Nos. 11374/41 and 10609/42. [Class 79 (i)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a vehicle suspension system two wheels or rollers, for example, two idler rollers of an endless-track vehicle, are each mounted on an arm pivoted or rubber mounted on opposite sides of a common pivot and working in opposition through an annular rubber torsion spring. In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the rollers c are carried by arms a, b on opposite sides of the pivot g to which the ends of the arms are pivoted. One of the arms h is connected directly by bolts m to the inner plates i, bonded each to one of the two rubber annuli h, while the other arm a is connected through the medium of a bush f to the outer plates i. In a modification, a single annular rubber spring is used and the arms are mounted on the pivot b rubber liners. Excessive movement in one direction is prevented by a rubber buffer o which may be enclosed in a box-like chamber of variable size. A similar buffer limits movement in the opposite direction. Specifications 363,039, [Group XXXII], and 503,341 are referred to.
