Abstract

826,433. Rubber springs; rail vehicle spring suspensions. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI S.A.G.A., S.p.A. Aug. 1, 1957 [Sept. 12, 1956], No. 24451/57. Classes 103(6) and 108(3) Suspension spring 14, Fig. 2, comprises a steel coil spring embedded in rubber. When pin 15 with sheath 18 telescopes inside sleeve 17 as spring 14 is compressed and extended the three toric rubber rings 32, 33, 34 roll up and down between members 17, 18 maintaining them substantially concentric. Sheath 18, which is held on pin 15 by plug 20 and bolt 21, is shaped to keep rings 32-34 equally spaced along its length. Rings 32-34 are radially compressed between sheath 18 and sleeve 17 on assembly. Instead of using a sheath 18 pin 15 could be suitably shaped, alternatively a shaped sheath could be positioned on the inside of sleeve 17 or the sleeve itself could be shaped. Fig. 1 shows the spring 14 used in a railway vehicle, disposed between a frame 10 and one of a pair of brackets 13 attached to an axle box 12 which supports the axle carrying wheel 11. Pin 15 is attached to frame 10 and sleeve 17 to bracket 13.
