Abstract

855,805. Spring suspensions; laminated springs. STANDARD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Dec. 8, 1958 [Oct. 23, 1957], No. 33037/57. Classes 108(2) and 108(3). A chassis member 12 is supported on a wheel axle 14 by a leaf spring 10. A second leaf spring 18 is attached to the chassis member 12 at a point 17 and to the leaf spring 10 by a link 19. The leaf spring 18 bears against an abutment 22 which is attached to the chassis member 12. The arrangement is such that as the wheel loading increases, the spring 18 is flexed over the abutment to become progressively reduced in length, whereby to apply a stiffened opposition to deflection of the wheel supporting spring 10. Thus, the effective length of the spring 10 is varied in dependencd on the load conditions.
