The eyepiece of a microscope has one or more graticules rotatably or slidably mounted in a housing, each graticule bearing a variety of curves, angles, or other forms, and enabling the instruments to be used for checking tool or gauge profiles. As shown, the microscope has an objective b in a tube a, a box-like casing a<2> containing prisms d or a mirror system, and an upper part a<3> carrying an eyepiece e, a graticule housing h and a lens o, mirror surfaces a<4>, a<5> being formed on surfaces of the parts a<2>, a<3>. A lamp f and a transparent reflector g may illuminate the tool &c. The graticules i are carried by a circular mounting rotatable on a pivot m by hand operation of a portion k of the mounting extending from the housing h.
