[Class 126] To reduce the consumption of fuel and to allow the burning of fuels normally unsuitable for combustion in open fire grates a canopylike fitting 1 pivots about grips 3 engaging the back of the firegrate and rests on the fuel. The grips 3 are mounted in side plates 4 adjustably secured to the fitting 1 and are pressed out. wardly to engage the sides of the fireback by levers 7 attached by a spring 5 to the fitting. Air passes to the fire through a duct 10 resting on the fuel and. depressions 11. The smoke passes to the chimney past the curved edges of the plates 4. A tool is provided for releasing the grips 3 and removing the fitting from the grate.
