Abstract
559,792. Valves. PHILLIPS & POWIS AIRCRAFT. Ltd., and WILD, R. O. Oct. 26, 1942, No, 15031. [Class 135] A multiple-way cock. particuiarty adapted for controlling the flow of liquid fuel from two tanks to one or more engines comprises a cylindrical body 10 into which are screwed four pipe connections 34, 38. Two of these connections, connected to the fuel tanks, are provided with resilient seating ferrules 42. A plug member 14 formed on a spindle 16 passing through a stuffing box 22 is formed with a transverse bore 44 housing a loose ball valve member 50. A spring 46 housed in the bore bears on a follower 48 to urge the ball into contact with the seat or inner surface of the body. The plug rests on a single ball bearing 52 and a ring of ball bearings 58 is arranged between the upper surface of the plug and the under surface of a detachable closure plug 18. The casing is preferably made of transparent synthetic resin. The casing may have more than four pipe connections and the plug may carry two balls.
