Abstract

559,450. Extruding. NORTHERN ALUMINIUM CO., Ltd., and WHITTLE, W. March 31, 1942, No. 4291. [Class 83 (iv)] Apparatus for receiving extruded metal &c. comprises three series of rollers of which the first is movable relative to the press 4, the second 12 is pivoted to and moves with the first and the third 19 is fixed relative to the press and, with the second, maintains a continuous roller table. The extruded rod &c. 3 is received by a shoe 5 which guides its end over the rollers 1, 12 and 19 and between rollers 8. At the end of the operation the die assembly D is released from the press and moved to the left, with the rollers 1, until the discard can be cut off by a fixed shear, not shown. During this movement the rollers 12, which are connected by pivoted links 13 to the carriage 9 on which the rollers 1 are mounted, move horizontally as guided by two side channels 16, each roller 12, as it approaches the fixed rollers 19, passing below these so that the whole length of the rod 3 is continuously supported. A saw 20 is arranged near the roller table 19.
