Abstract

557,687. Cracking oils. INTERNATIONAL CATALYTIC OIL PROCESSES CORPORATION. Sept. 12, 1941, No. 11176. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1940. [Class 32] In the catalytic conversion of hydrocarbon oils to gasoline, the conversion is carried out in the presence of catalyst particles graded in size so that less than 70 per cent, of the particles pass through a 325 mesh screen while at least 70 per cent. are between 20 and 200 microns and less than 10 per cent. less than 20 microns in size. The conversion is carried out by passing the oil through a vaporizer 14 mixing the vapours with catalyst from a dispersion chamber 43 where the catalyst is suspended in a stream of gases fed through line 47 and passing the catalyst suspension through a tubular furnace 24. The cracked vapours are separated from catalyst in separators 28, 64 and then passed to the usual condensing and recovery apparatus through line 78. The catalyst is purged by a blast of steam passed through line 74 in counter current to the catalyst falling down baffles 58 and is then fed by a conveyer 88 to a dispersion chamber 91 where it is mixed with oxidising gases and passed through regenerators 94, 97, 100 separated by coolers 95, 98. Additional oxidising gases may be added through lines 96, 99. The regenerated catalyst is fed through line 101 to separators 52, 48 and thence to a hopper 34 from which it is returned to the reaction cycle.
