Abstract
542,925. Catalytic apparatus and processes. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. April 23, 1940, No. 7292. Convention date. Aug. 31, 1939. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group IV] In a catalytic reforming of hydrocarbons under conditions giving a net production of free hydrogen, the latter is continuously recycled and the catalyst is suspended in the mixture of oil vapours and recycled hydrogen before admission to the reaction zone. The ratio of catalyst to oil is at least 2 : 1 by weight. The catalyst may comprise a mixture of aluminium oxide and an oxide of a metal of Group VI. It is separated from the reaction products, regenerated and recycled. In the illustrated apparatus, oil from tank 1 and hydrogen from tank 2 are pumped through heating coil 10, mixed with finely divided catalyst from hopper 11, and passed through reaction vessel 17. The catalyst is separated in cyclone separator 19, regenerated in combustion chamber 70 in a current of oxidizing gas, separated from this at 72 and regenerated. The reaction products pass into high pressure separator 22 from which the gases pass into scrubber 41 where light hydrocarbons are separated, the remaining hydrogen being returned to tank 2. Liquids pass through low pressure separator 24 into fractionating tower 29.
