[Class 89 (i)] A self-locking nut or like threaded member has a locking ring constrained to move axially with the nut without rotating with it and formed with one or more teeth or projections on its inner edge that cut a keyway in the bolt thread as the nut is screwed up. The locking spring ring b, which may be gapped is retained in a recess in the nut as by flanging over at C or by means of a separate part spun over to engage a groove in the outside of the nut, or the locking ring itself may have a flange for this purpose. The ring is bent inwards to form a tooth d that on screwing up engages and cuts a more or less axial keyway in the bolt thread.
