Abstract

552,634. Screw-thread gauges. HORSLEY, H., and GALLIMORE, W. J. March 11, 1942, No. 3240. [Class 106 (ii)] A gauge for external threads comprises two pairs of members 18, 19 and 20, 21 having teeth for contacting opposite sides of the work piece, the teeth of one pair 18, 19 being shaped to show the full form of the thread, and those of the other pair 20, 21 to show the effective diameter, one member of each pair being fixed to a support 11, and the other members 18, 20 slidably mounted on the support to coact with an indicator 14. The slide 25 is shaped to straddle the member 19 and moves on ball bearings being pressed down by a spring 30. A pin 34 engages on slot 35 to limit movement of the slide, which is moved against the spring 30 by a pivoted lever to admit the work. Fixed back stops 22 are provided to position the work. The plunger 16 of the dial gauge engages a screw 29 in the slide. The device is arranged at an angle of about 45 degrees to the vertical to facilitate the gauging operation.
