555,332. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., and QUAYLE, J. C. Jan. 7, 1942, Nos. 279/42 and 1255/43. [Class 36] [Also in Group V] Cables are insulated with vulcanized rubber compositions the specific inductive capacity of which has been increased by the incorporation of high-purity titanium dioxide in the rutile form obtained naturally or synthetically, and added in amounts of 50 to 500 per cent on the rubber. An outer layer of rubber and intermediate coatings with diminishing proportions of rutile may be applied. A cable may have a central conductor and an outer conductor or screen separated by the rubber composition. The compositions may also be used in place of porcelain or impregnated paper in cable joints and terminations. The flexibility of the composition may be increased by incorporating softening agents such as stearic acid or cycline oil or plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate or 2- ethyl-hexoic triethylene glycol ester.
