Abstract
553,870. Pulley hoists. WEIGNER, O. Oct. 28, 1941, No. 13845. [Class 78 (v)] A drum and pulley hoist has pinion gearing, between a driving electric motor 7 and the drum 3, located within the drum. When more than two falls 2 are employed, the upper pulley is mounted so as to be laterally movable along a shaft 28 in order to keep the on-coming rope substantially in line with the plane of the pulleys. The shaft 28 may be fixed and threaded for this purpose. The extension of the motor and drum shaft carries a brake drum 13 the band 29 of which is attached at one end 33 to the framework and at the other end to a lever 30 pivoted at 33. The outer end of the lever 30 is weighted at 31 and linked at 30a to a solenoid 32 in the motor circuit. When the motor is energized the lever 30 is raised to take off the brake. Means for manually rotating the drum consist of a sprocket 39 which can be moved by a bell-crank operated by a cord to engage a dog &c. clutch at the extremity of the drum shaft. A hand-pulled chain 41 passes over a sprocket 36 coupled by a chain 38 to the sprocket 39 and mounted on an arm 35 swinging about the shaft 11 and counterweighted at 42. A pin 34 extending from the arm 35 bears on the rear extension of the lever 30 to raise the weight 31 and release the brake when a pull is. exerted on the chain 41.
