Abstract

727,990. Chain hoist clutches. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. March 19, 1953 [April 10, 1952], No. 9282/52. Class 78 (5). A slipping clutch is inserted in the electric motor drive to a chain hoist, the clutch slipping at a load less than that which breaks the chain. As shown, motor shaft 1 carries slidable clutch sleeve 5, the teeth 6 of which are pressed by spring 10 into engagement with teeth 7 of loosely-mounted driven pinion 8 which drives the chain hoist. The teeth slope so that when the predetermined load is exceeded the said teeth separate to cut off the transmission, the clatter of the teeth warning the operator. Collar 9 formed on sleeve 5 may be adjustably fixed thereon.
