Abstract

553,343. Electric immersion heaters; thermal switches. RUSH, H. A. Oct. 14, 1941, No. 13191. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] An insulating body 10, threaded at 12 for engagement with the neck of a hot water bottle, carries a detachable insulating housing 14 having a non-circular recess 15 to receive a metal 'holder for a carbon electrode 30. A tubular carbon electrode 34 is secured to a reduced portion 33a of the body. Spacers 35 are provided at one or both ends of the electrode 30 to prevent contact with the outer electrode in the event of breakage. Access of liquid to the space between the electrodes is provided for by holes 14a, 14b, and a drain hole is provided at the bottom of the housing 14. The current supply is controlled by a bimetallic contact member 16 engaging a contact screw 22 which is externally adjustable to vary the temperature at which the contacts open.
