[Class 44] In a sliding - clasp fastener having the stringer ends secured by plates pivoted together so that one of the plates may swing laterally into and out of the slot in the slider as in Specification 527,825, said plate has means for guiding the slider into correct engagement with the fastener elements. The invention is particularly applicable to a fastening in which the stringers may be separated, when required, by lateral pull, as, for example in Specification 542,953 wherein the slider can be moved beyond a resilient top stop into a position beyond fastener elements on one of the stringers which can then be pulled laterally out of the slider.. As shown a pair of plates 8, bent to provide channel portions 7 and cut away ut the upper edges as shown to accommodate the wedge 15 of slider 4, are secured on opposite faces of stringer 2 by rivets 9. A plate 5 bent to embrace the edge of stringer 1 is secured by rivets 6 and is pivoted between plates 8 by a pin 11 the head of which, or a separate stop, arrests opening movement of the slider. Plate 5 has a projection which may be of wedge or other form but'is shown as an embossed dome 12. The projection is disposed so that when the pivoted plates are closed together it passes over the upper end of the side wall 14 of the slider and makes sliding contact with the inner face of said wall as the slider is moved to close the fastener, thus guiding the slider into correct engagement.
