Abstract
550,892. Wheel tyres. HALSEY, W. F., HALSEY, D. C., and GOBELL, C. C. June 5, 1941, No. 7121. [Class 144 (ii)] Tyres approximating to standard size are provided with cooling means which consist in providing the inner tubes with V-shaped external grooves disposed circumferentially or spirally around the exterior of the tube and interconnected with one another and with air inlet and outlet passages formed in the outer cover or wheel rim. The grooves 4 formed on the exterior of the inner tube may be longitudinally disposed as shown in Fig. 6, or they may be disposed spirally around the tube or otherwise. The grooves are interconnected by cross channels 4a which may be as shown in Fig. 6, or circularly around the tube. The air passages formed by these grooves or channels when the inner tube is assembled in the outer cover 2 are in communication with the outer air by means of recesses 7a, passages 6, 8 and ports 6a in the outer cover 2 as shown in Fig. 1, or by means of a chamber a, Fig. 2, formed by the wheel rim and the beaded edges of the outer cover and passages 9, 9a in the spokes 3a of the wheel. In another form the passages in the outer cover terminate in through passages formed in lateral projections of the outer cover.
