Abstract
550,464. Air-raid shelters. WESTON, H. Nov. 3, 1941, No. 14126. [Class 20 (i)] A surface air-raid shelter of reinforced brick or block-work has lintels for windows and doors let into the walls, so that the shelter can be easily converted into a dwelling house by using the same walls, foundation and roof. The lintels 18 are built into the walls 17 of the shelter in suitable positions for forming windows and doors in a building, so that after the use of the building as a shelter is discontinued, the bricks below the lintels may be removed to form openings 19, outer walls 27 spaced from the shelter walls may be erected, stairs 29 may be placed between the walls and a further storey erected upon the flat roof of -the shelter. Internal partition walls may also be erected with suitable openings for doors to divide the inner space into rooms which may be fitted up as dwelling rooms, bathrooms and the like. Bunks 15 and lavatories 14 may be provided in the shelter.
