Abstract

547,776. Filling bottles &c. ENOCK, A. G. July 18, 1941, No. 9096. [Classes 94 (i) and 125 (ii)] In apparatus for filling bottles or other containers L, Figs. 2 and 3, with liquids or powders by means' of suction, of the type in which the bottles are carried on supports C which are raised by pneumatic or other means to bring the bottles into engagement with the filling nozzles, the bottle support is allowed to move downwards a predetermined distance after filling until the bottom of the suction nozzle H through which the surplus liquid and frothy head are withdrawn coincides with the required liquid level X-X in the bottle, the downward movement then being arrested until the surplus liquid &c. has been drawn off and the suction broken, after which the downward movement of the support is continued. The cycle of operations consists in the admission of air through the port B below the piston A thus lifting the support C until the container L reaches the rubber sealing ring D in the filling head D', Fig. 2. Liquid then flows into the container and while filling is taking place air is admitted below the piston F on the selector rod G causing it to rise to the top of its stroke. After filling; pressure is cut off below the piston A and the piston forced down by the spring J until the boss a engages the top of the rod G, Fig. 3. The seal at D being broken liquid ceases to be drawn into the container and excess liquid and the frothy head are withdrawn through the nozzle H. Air is then cut off below the piston F and admitted through the port B<SP>1</SP> above the piston A so that the support is returned to its lowest position.
