Abstract
547,487. Conveyers. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, D. M. Feb. 24, 1941, No. 2480. [Class 78 (i)] Carrier spindles 10 interconnected by a travelling belt or chain 13 and running on an I-section beam 11 are rotated during their travel by frictional engagement of a roller 15 secured on each spindle with a belt 16 resiliently pressed against the.rollers. The belt 16 may travel at a speed or in a direction different from that of the belt 13. The rollers are supported against the thrust of the belt by fixed rails 33, 34. The belt 16 is attached by links 17 to an endless chain 18 passing around sprockets 19, 20 carried on frame members 21, 22, and, is driven by an electric motor 23 supported by the frame member 21. The frame members 21, 22 are supported by movable carriages 24, 25, having wheels 26 running in channels 27, the carriages being urged towards the spindles by compression springs 28 located between fixed abutments 30 and brackets 29 on the carriages. Means for preventing rotation of a spindle throughout predetermined distances in its travel comprises a member 37 supported on the spindle immediately above the roller 15 and having pivoted thereon a spring-loaded lever 36 carrying a locking plunger 35 which enters holes in the upper face of the roller 15, the plunger being raised to allow rotation of the roller by engagement of a projection 39 on the lever 36 with a cam 38. In modifications, (a) the rails 33, 34 and carriages 24, 25 may be omitted, the load being slightly offset from the centre line of the beam 11 so that the weight of the load and carrier is partly taken by the belt 16, and (b) the rails 33, 34, may be replaced by another band driven from the band 16 and in a direction opposite to that of the latter. The invention may be applied to sand-blasting bomb. cases. According to the Provisional Specification the off-setting of the load may be combined with the spring-loading of the band.
