Abstract
547,244. Concentrating sulphuric acid. POWERGAS CORPORATION, Ltd., KALOUS, M. J., and RAMBUSH, N. E. April 8, 1941, No. 4703. [Class 32] [Also in Group XIII] Weak sulphuric acid is concentrated by direct contact with steam superheated regeneratively. The low temperature steam leaving the concentrator is recycled to the regenerator. The sulphuric acid is concentrated in a concentrator 1 by means of steam superheated in regenerative furnaces 2, 3 the low temperature steam being recycled through line 15 and valves 24, 25 to the chambers 8, 9. The furnaces 2, 3 which are used alternatively, comprise combustion chambers 6, 7 and chambers 8, 9 filled with refractory bricks and are heated by burners 4, 5 fed with fuel, gas, or oil from supply line 14 through valves 20, 21 and air fed through lines 13 and valves 18, 19. Excess steam derived from the water in the sulphuric acid is used for purging the furnace between runs by passing it through line 17 up through the furnaces and out through the stack 12. Variation in the temperature of the steam generated is controlled by providing a bye-pass connection and valve 30 across the low temperature steam line and the supply to the concentrator through valve 16, the valve being automatically controlled by a governor 31. Specification 536,322 is referred to.
