Abstract

547,200. Brushes. TRIGGS, W. W. (Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation). March 3, 1941, No. 2845. [Class 19] A unitary brush assembly for machines adapted to brush the surfaces of electroplated strip material and one capable of removal through the side wall of the brushing machine without damage to the brush comprises a shaft 4 directly connected by a coupling to the armature shaft of a motor 6 and having keyed to it at 7 a tube 9 on which the brushing element 10 is wound. A protective member 12, comprising a cylindrical shell having longitudinal slots 14 through which the brushing element projects, has at its ends supported by the side walls 2, 3 of the machine and is provided with oppositely disposed flanges 16 which co-operate with guideways 17 secured to and extending between the walls 2, 3. The motor 6 is secured to one end of the protective member 12. Splash plates 18 are secured to the shaft 4.
