Abstract

546,348. Anti-aircraft projectile. SILSON, F. H. Jan. 8, 1941, No. 257. [Class 9 (i)] An anti-aircraft projectile projects bullets after a predetermined time in its flight in directions at angles to the axis of the projectile. The head portion d which is screwed on to the main body portion c is hollow and carries a central fuze, and is apertured with rifled bores e<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>3</SP> through which bullets can be projected from cartridges. The cartridges are supported in recesses in a barrel block e within the main bady by a resiliently-mounted aperture plate m, slidably mounted on pins o screwed into the block e. Resiliently mounted on these pins is a firing block f with pins g aligned with the apertures in the plate m. The firing block is pressed forward to fire the cartridges against the action of a spring h by explosive in the chamber x which is fired by the fuze at the head of the projectile. The ends of the rifled bores are closed by wooden plugs p. which are expelled by the bullets.
