Class 9(i) A practice projectile to be fired from a rocket launcher has the shape of a live projectile and is loaded with a cartridge and sub-calibre projectile having the ballistic characteristics of the live projectile the practice projectile being ejected from the rear of the launcher by recoil action when the reduced calibre projectile is projected forwardly. Into the launcher 1 is inserted the practice projectile 2 containing the reduced calibre projectile. The projectile 2 has a wooden body 4 to which is attached a metal cap 5, the external shape being similar to a rocket projectile. A rifled steel tube 6 within the projectile is secured forwardly to a flange on the cap 5 and rearwardly by a member 7 to which is screwed a base 8 similar to a breech plug. Within the base 8 is a striker 9 held by a spring 10 in a guide 11. Fins 12 engage a bolt (not shown) to prevent movement of the projectile in the launcher before firing. The reduced calibre projectile is inserted at the rear and locked in position by the base 8. This projectile 3, Fig. 5, has a forward part 14 preferably of non-metallic material housing a fuze consisting of a striker 16 held apart from a primer 17 by a spring 18. On impact the part 14 is shattered at a shoulder 19. Attached to the part 14 is a metal casing 20 with a driving band 21 engaging the rifling of the tube 6. A marker charge 22 is held in position by a wad 23 and a metal ring 24 below which is a tracer charge 25 in a housing 26. A relay 27 transmits fire between the charges 22 and 25. The attached cartridge case 28 containing a propellant 29 beneath wads 30 houses a firing cap 31. The quantity of propellant can be altered by varying the number of wads 30. On firing, a hammer 32, Fig 1, hits the striker 9, forcing it against the cap 31, which then initiates the charge 29. The sub-calibre projectile is projected from the launcher and the recoil sends the dummy projectile rearwardly. In a modification the sub-calibre shell casing is in one piece and is of brass, the outer surface having longitudinal grooves to facilitate fracture. Cork discs hold the marker charge in position.
