Abstract
545,936. Signalling through wave guides. LELAND STANFORD JUNIOR UNIVERSITY, BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF. Aug. 14, 1940, No. 1994/42. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1939. Divided out of 545,779. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Apparatus for diverting or segregating wave signals from a main wave guide to one or more receiving guides contiguous for at least a portion of their length with the main wave guides, comprises a plurality of mutually spaced energy interchanging devices at the contiguous portions adapted to transfer predetermined frequencies between the guides. The Figure shows apparatus for directing signals of selected frequencies from a guide 71 to adjoining guides 69, 70. Loops in guide 71 link with the waves and are connected through holes to corresponding antennae in the adjacent guides. The sense and spacing is such that transfer is effected in the required direction at the particular frequency concerned. The devices may be so arranged that the major transfer is effected by a central element 75 associated with pairs 74, 76 and 73, 77 so spaced that the signal path in wavelengths through one element of the pair is as much longer than the corresponding path through the central element as the path through the other element of the pair is shorter. In this way a frequency discriminating filter is obtained which is capable of producing either single or multiple pass and stop bands.
