Abstract

545,748. Supports for optical apparatus. ALDIS BROS., Ltd., and ALDIS, A. C. W. April 22. 1941, No. 5182. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XIV] Apparatus comprising a sighting line necessitating accurate adjustment is supported on the ground by three triangularly-arranged legs adjustably carried by a frame and resting on ground members, their upper ends being adapted ta carry corresponding members on the apparatus. As shown, a front leg b and rear legs c are secured in bearings a<SP>1</SP> in an isosceles frame a, and each comprises a threaded vertically-adjustable stem j rotatable by a collar r and securable by a clamping piece n, screw p, and nut q. Slot s may be formed in the tops of the legs to provide resilient grips for the stems, and the tops of the stems may be hemispherical to engage feet u of a signalling apparatus, the feet u having under-surfaces which are, respectively, plane, conical, and slotted. The bottoms of the legs may also be, respectively, plane, conical, and slotted and engage the hemispherical tops of studs e extending from plates d having holes through which are passed spikes securing the plates to the ground. According to the Provisional Specification, the legs may rest on posts or spikes which are driven into the ground and may have detachable parts normally secured by spigots and sockets or by screw-threaded connections.
