Abstract

1,232,132. Boots &c. MIDLANDS ELECTRICITY BOARD. 23 Feb., 1970 [11 Feb., 1969], No. 7223/69. Heading A3B. A climbing iron for climbing trees and upright wooden poles consists of a tread plate 14 which supports the wearer's foot, a spur 12 which engages the tree or pole and means for attaching the device to the wearer's leg, the attaching means being adjustable heightwise relative to the tread plate 14. As described the tread plate 14 has an upwardly extending stem 11 and a tubular sleeve 1 is slidable over the upper portion 3 of the stem 11. The sleeve 1 is secured to the stem 11 by a screw 6 which passes through a selected one of a plurality of apertures in the sleeve 1 and is screwed into an aperture in the stem 11. The sleeve 1 has a slot 7 through which a strap 8 is passed to secure the device to the wearer's leg. A strap 19 also passes through a slot 18 between the stem 11 and spur 10 and through an eye 17 formed at the free end of the tread plate 14. The spur 10 consists of a conical projection 12 having a sharp point 13 which lies in or just above the plane of the tread plate 14.
