Abstract

543,597. Pyrometers. BRAYSHAW FURNACES & TOOLS, Ltd., BRAYSHAW, S. N., and RUSHTON, F. Sept. 3, 1940, No. 13784. [Class 97 (iii)] In an electric pyrometer of the kind employing a thermo-couple or resistance and used for determining the temperature of a bath of molten material one or more additional independent wires are introduced whereby on breakage or piercing of the sheathing of the pyrometer a circuit is completed through a device D which then operates to give an alarm or to control or cut off the supply of heat to the bath. Fig. 7 shows a bath G in which is plated a pyrometer comprising a sheath C, wires a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP> of a thermocouple and an independent wire E connected to an indicating device D the return wire of which is as shown connected to one of the leads of the wires a', a<SP>2</SP> but which may be connected to the bath G or to the sheath C or alternatively may comprise a second independent wire mounted in the sheath alongside but seperate from the wire E. On piercing of the sheath as at y short circuit occurs causing the device D to be operated and so give an alarm or control or cut-off the heat supply. The wires a<SP>1</SP>, as and the independent wire or wires are preferably threaded through short beads or tubes F in the sheath C of the pyrometer.
