540,511. Friction clutches. BORG & BECK CO., Ltd. July 18, 1940, No. 11868. Convention date, Sept. 15, 19'39. [Class 80 (ii)] In a friction clutch a friction plate 14 is clamped between a flywheel 10 and a pressure plate 13 by pressure applied to radial levers 17 fulcrummed in apertures 29 in the axial wall 30 of a Z-shaped reaction member 25 fixed to the flywheel. The reaction member 25 is polygonal in form, and between each pair of apertures 25 is a flexible driving link 35 one end of which is fixed to the flywheel 13 at 36 and the other end to the reaction member 25 at 37, as shown in Fig. 3. The links 35 are chordal to the pressure plate. The thrust of an external spring is transmitted to the pressure plate 13 from each lever 17 by a T-shaped strut 18, the leg 21 of which enters a clearance hole 22 in The pressure plate 13.
