[Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] The capacity, and therefore the period, of hollow resonators for use in electron oscillators, particularly in oscillators such as that described in Specification 537,490, in which an electron beam velocity modulated by passing through a resonator produces oscillations on passing through a second resonator, is varied by varying an electronic space charge within the resonator or the velocity or density of an electron beam passing through the resonator, these operations being performed in known ways.
