[Class 146 (iii)] In a fountain pen, a hollow member having capillary cells to govern the ink feed is open to the ink reservior whereby surplus ink in the feed duct enters the cells to prevent flooding whilst air enters the reservoir when the cells are free of ink. The nib-section is formed by a tubular element 2 closed at the rear end and formed with transverse slits in the upper wall whereby the forward section may be depressed and form a seat for a nib 3. The rear end of the nib is held beneath the unslit part of the wall of the nib-section by a springy element 6 having a protuberance 9 engaging an aperture 4 in the nib 3. The amount of flexure of the nib ran be controlled by a sliding element 29 held in adjusted position by a projection at the rear end engaging notches in the wall of the section. Enclosed in the section is a tubular member 13, the upper wall of which is extended to form the element 6, and is formed with longitudinal channels along which ink is fed from the reservoir 27. Slots 16 cut in the bases of the channels give access to the interior of the member 13 wherein is contained a structure 14 composed of a series of spaced elements which provide a number of capillary cells to absorb any overflow ink. The ink duct 26 tapers towards the nib end, and an air passage 18 arranged diametrically opposite in the member 13 increases in size towards the nib end where it opens to the atmosphere through a vent 24. Ink reaches the nib through slits 17, 8 in the element 6 and section 2 respectively. The vents 16 are smaller in size than the capillary spaces, and these spaces increase in cross-section towards the nib end. A construction employing an ordinary nib is also described.
