536,821. Magnesium. RUTHERFORD, Sir J. H. LANCASHIRE METAL SUBLIMING CORPORATION, Ltd., MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON, Ltd., LEECH, H. R., and MATTHEWS S. E. Nov. 24, 1939, Nos. 30686/39 and 3617/40. [Class 82 (i) ] Magnesium is recovered from finely divided scrap of magnesium or magnesium alloys such as powder, swarf, sawings, skimmings, or fettlings, by heating a charge of the material by electric induction in a non-conducting container to a temperature below the melting-point of the scrap at a pressure below 2 mm. of mercury, and condensing the magnesium vapour. The charge may be briquetted or pelleted, and may contain primers such as sheet steel clippings or plates. Furnaces of the type described in Specifications 466,763, 469,760, and 484,429 may be used. Specifications 486,930 and 510,196 also are referred to.
