535,258. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Oct. 2, 1939, No. 26984. Convention date, Oct. 17, 1938. [Class 8 (i)] The nozzle of a vacuum cleaner has lips 3, 4 maintained at a fixed height from the floor and contains a rotary agitator having fixed beaters 8 which move in an orbit which is well clear of a bare floor, but allows the beaters to strike a carpet when lifted by suction, while the brush bristles 9 are long enough to allow the brush to sweep both the bare floor and the lifted carpet.
