535,088. Door and like operating appliances. FOTHERGILL, J. Nov. 9, 1939, No. 29730. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] A device for operating furnace doors and the like comprises telescopic tubular members 8, 16, the inner member 8 being provided with a nut 19 engaging with a screw 9 driven through worm and worm wheel gearing 17, 18 by an electric motor. In a modification the screw is driven directly without gearing. The tube 8 is provided with a head 7 carrying a pulley 6 which is arranged in the bight of a rope 2 one end of which is connected to the door to be operated and the other end connected to bracket fixed to a stanchion which also carries a bracket 13 to which the casing enclosing the gear 17, 18 is secured. The tube 8 is guided by rods 20.
