Abstract

527,920. Reinforced concrete slabs. SOMMERFIELD, A., and SOMMERFIELD, K. J. April 6, 1939, Nos. 10838 and 25870. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group V] A reinforced corrugated concrete slab for use in a wall or lining in a trench, air raid shelter, house or hut has its upper edge of the same corrugated form as the roofing slab it is intended to support so that the two slabs nest together. The slab is preferably of the form shown in Fig. 1 the internal A, B, C, and external radii, A<SP>1</SP>, B', C' of curvature being equal, resulting in non-uniform thickness and accurate nesting. As shown in Fig. 5 the ends of side wall slabs 1 may be formed with upstanding key portions 2 which enter corresponding recesses or side roof slabs. The edges of the lining walls may be secured together by grouting or rendering, by means of pre-cast concrete T-shaped posts, by metal cover strips or by simple overlapping. Reinforcement projecting from the edge of the slabs may be used to connect the slabs to vertical steel rods around which a concrete keying member is cast. The second Provisional Specification describes a mould for slabs which comprises a frame carrying a number of spaced corrugated spacing members which are closed at their lower ends by aluminium distance pieces sealed by rubber, and shaped to produce the corrugated edges. Means acting on the edges of the slabs may be provided for vibrating in concrete during withdrawal of the spacing members en bloc. The slabs may be subjected to a compressive force in the opposite direction to facilitate separation.
