Abstract

720,144. Walls and roofs; portable buildings; slabs. HOOK, J. R. May 15, 1952, No. 12368/52. Classes 20 (1), 20 (4) and 87 (1). A building comprises a plurality of pre-cast concrete wall posts 21-24, Fig. 1, each having a peg 30, Fig. 3, extending longitudinally from its upper end and longitudinal slots 34, 35, in at least two of its faces, the several posts being arranged vertically at spaced intervals in the vertical planes of the walls. Pre-fabricated wall panels 25 are engaged in the slots of adjacent posts, a metal stirrup 43, Fig. 16, is engaged by each peg at the top of a post, pre-cast concrete beams 26 are supported by the stirrups 43 and pre-fabricated roof slabs 55, 58, 61, Fig. 17, are supported by the beams. The posts 21-24: have lower projecting pegs 31 for engaging holes formed in the concrete foundation 20, the pegs 30, 31 being constituted by a steel reinforcing rod in the concrete post. The wall panels 25 are of concrete faced with bricks, for instance as described in Specifications 584,803 and 645,358. The vertical sides of door or window frames 36, 37 are formed with, or have secured to them, ribs 38 to engage slots 35. For small buildings the window frames may be of square section of side equal to the slot width. Internal partitions are fitted into a third slot provided in posts 39, 39<SP>1</SP>, posts with four slots being provided at the intersection of partitions. Each stirrup 43 is of Z-shape with an aperture in its upper limb for receiving pin 30 and a triangular side flange 46. After placing beams 26, 261 in position tie-rods 44, 441 are secured by bolts 52, 52<SP>1</SP>, which pass through apertures in the ends of the tie-rods, side flanges 46 and beams 26, 261. Each roof slab 61 has a pair of symmetrically placed ribs 62, 63 on its underside for fitting between adjacent beams 26, 261. The slabs 55, 58 are similarly furnished with ribs but also have an overhang forming an eave. In a modification the space between the pair of ribs is filled in to form a rectangular projection. In a further form of roof slab the longitudinal ribs are replaced by a pair of transverse ones. The units of a building may be cemented together, a weak cement being used for a temporary building.
