Abstract

524,215. Order-telegraph signalling apparatus. HEMMINGSEN, T. V. Jan. 24, 1939, No. 2454. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1938. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVII] In an arrangement for effecting the reversal of an internal-combustion engine by means of a mechanical connection with the reply handle of an engine-room telegraph, a connecting-element between the reply handle and the reversing- mechanism is so shaped that the movement of the reversing-mechanism by the reply handle is effected only during the movement of the reply handle between the positions " slow ahead" and "slow astern," or between the positions "stand by" and "finished with engine." As shown, the shaft 5 of the reply handle 4 is provided with a cam 7 engaging between rollers 8 on a lever 9, which is connected by an arm 11, rod 12, and a link (not shown)'to a connecting-rod 13 actuating a starting-airdistributer or other reversing-element of the engine. The cam 7 is so shaped that the actuation of the reversing-element is effected only during the movement of the reply handlebetween the positions mentioned above. A handle 14 controls the fuel supply to the engine and is interlocked with the elements actuated from the reply handle 4, in such a manner that movement of the handle 4 between the positions " slow ahead " and "slow astern" can only be effected when the handle 14 is in the "stop" position ; preferably also the connection is such that the handle 14 is locked in the "stop" position during this movement of the reply handle 4.
