[Class 78 (i)] A conveyer for handling refuse during fermentation on a treating floor comprises a chain bucket-elevator 19 hinged at 22, to a swivel member 23 mounted on a travelling carriage 18 which runs along a gantry mounted to traverse rails 13. A motor 27, Fig. 4, operates a chain 25 to luff the elevator and also traverses the carriage 18 along the gantry. The elevator rakes the material off the floors into conical heaps 29 and also delivers material from the heaps to vehicles 30. A transfer gantry between the adjacent treating floors provides for the transfer of the gantry 14 and the travelling carriage and elevator from one floor to the other. An appliance 21 of the kind described in Specification 496,637, [Group XXI], for mixing the materials on the floors and for resurfacing the floors, is mounted on the upper rails 20 of the gantry. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the elevator is supported by links 41 from a bracket 40 on the ball-bearing turntable 37 on the carriage 18. Chains running from winches 45, 46 tilt the elevator about the pivot 42. A motor 47 drives the sprocket 57 through chain gear to operate the elevator. The operator stands or sits on the turntable and views the elevator through an adjustable mirror 59. Specifications 496,547 and 521,894, [both in Group I], also are referred to.
