Abstract

521,301. Protective cut-out arrangements. FORREST, J. S. Nov. 14, 1938, No. 33044. [Class 38 (v)] A conductor B or piece of apparatus F is protected against leakage or arc-over by means of a guard ring A or other conductor which is mounted on or near an insulator E of the conductor or apparatus adjacent the earthed end of the insulator and connected to earth by conductor C, such that a protective relay in C trips the breakers affected. The relay may be energized by a current transformer in the conductor C, or the latter may contain a spark gap or low resistance, the voltage across which energizes the relay. Where several insulators of a protected zone such as a busbar installation are so equipped, the conductor C may have a common protective relay. If the guard ring reduces the insulation value of an insulator-string, another insulator may be added to the string.
