520,308. Animal traps. WHITLOCK, F. J. Nov. 4, 1938; No. 31977. [Class 5 (i)] A squirrel trap is formed as a cage having a spring-actuated door 5 at one end and a swing- ing gate 15, 16 in front of a bait chamber 18. When an animal enters through the open door and engages the gate 15, 16, the latter moves inwardly, but on the return swing, engages a control wire 13 pivoted at 14 to release a locking bar 11 to allow the spring 9 to close the door 5, which is held closed by a sliding retainer 10. The gate 15, 16 is made in two parts which may be adjusted to vary the distance of the part 16 from the floor. The gate may have a bait hook.
