Abstract
516,872. Valve amplifying circuits. SNEATH. O. B. July 6, 1938, No. 20043. [Class 40 (v)] A manual volume control consists of a potentiometer constituting a variable resistance in series with the signal input to a valve and to which negative reaction is applied and a variable resistance shunting the whole or a part of a winding of an audiofrequency transformer. The Figure shows an arrangement in which the feedback is fed through a condenser C1 and resistance R1 to the potentiometer R2, part of which varies the voltage fed back to the grid circuit, while the other part forms a variable resistance shunting a part of the input transformer winding. The range of the volume control can be further extended by including some positive reaction in the grid circuit. Frequency selective circuits may be used to vary the relative amplification of different frequencies, e.g., the variable resistance may be shunted by a condenser or a resistance shunted condenser may be included in the cathode circuit.
