Abstract

514,422. Mops; mop wringers. HART, J., and BERWICK, K. D. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 879. [Class 19] In a manually-operated cleaning device for floors and other surfaces, a cleaning pad 2 of sponge rubber or other absorbent material is gripped along its top longitudinal edge by a channel-shaped holder 3 which carries clamped to it by members 6a and 6b and the bolt 7 a socket 5 in which is fitted a handle 4 for moving the cleaner over a floor or other surface. Pivotally mounted by arms 12c and a bolt 13 to lugs 14 on the socket 5 is a lever 12 which is fixed by a bolt to a bifurcated bracket 10 having forked legs 10a straddling the holder 3. On the feet of the forked legs are mounted rubber rollers 8 carried by spindles 9. In order to squeeze water from the cleaner 2, the lever arm 12 is pulled forward against the action of a spring 16 and the rollers move downward, compressing the rubber pad and expelling the water at the face 2a.
