Abstract

512,333. Control of D.C. motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CROFT, E. H. March 18, 1938, No. 8402. [Class 38 (iii)] Regenerative and non-regenerative braking.- A contactor B, arranged to connect a motor 1 in a rheostatic braking circuit is operated by a coil BW connected during regenerative braking across the motor in series with a resistance 19, so that upon the occurrence of excess voltage during regeneration the contactor completes the rheostatic braking circuit, while for normal rheostatic braking the coil BW is energised from the supply independently of the resistance 19 by closure of contacts BCC on the braking controller. When the contactor B operates on excess voltage the resistance 19 is short-circuited by auxiliary contacts BNO. Means may be provided to prevent operation of the contactor B upon the occurrence of over-voltage during motoring.
