Abstract

180,249. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., Hastings, H. C., and Farmer, H. F. Aug. 12, 1921. Systems for continuous-current motors only; electric braking.-In order to control the strength of the field when a motor is stopped or started, a contactor 1, adapted to short-circuit a field rheostat 8, is automatically operated by an electromagnet 2 connected in series with themotor armature 7. The winding of the electromagnet is short-circuited when the last accelerating contactor 3 is closed. A condenser 5 serves to prevent sparking at the contactor terminals. In a modification, similar functions are provided for in dynamic braking.
