Abstract

509,802. Ball bearings. ADAMANT ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and MATRAVERS, F. G. March 14,1938, No. 7872. [Class 12 (i)] A self-adjusting ballbearing, for steering columns and the like, comprises an enclosing tubular casing 3 with a detachable cap 10, an inner sleeve 1 with a flared inner end 6 abutting a ridge 8 on the column 4, an outer sleeve 2 with a flared outer end 7 and a compression spring 5 abutting the cap 10 and pressing the bearing balls between the flared ends of the sleeves 1, 2. The cap 10 may be fixed to the casing 3 by a bayonet joint 11 or like connection.
