508,229. Valves. EVANS, C. C. Jan. 28, 1938, No. 2693. [Class 7 (vi)] In a two-stroke engine, cylinder inlet ports N admitting air or mixture compressed in the 'crank-case are controlled by ports B in a sleeve-valve extension K of the piston, and cylinder exhaust ports D are controlled either by the top edge of the piston extension or by further ports C provided therein. The inlet ports N extend all around the cylinder, or are arranged in diametrically-opposite groups. Packing-rings 4 are fitted to the piston at opposite sides of the ports B, and where the piston extension controls the exhaust by its top edge, packing-rings are also fitted around the top end of the extension. Where, however, ports C are provided in the extension, packing-rings 5 are fitted around the depending cylinder head F.
